From Master Tailor To Exporter: How Caster Global Sports Scaled Its Custom Sportswear Business
By FedEx | April 14, 2026
Caster Global Sports transformed its family’s tailoring legacy into a global custom sportswear business, showing how Philippine SMEs can grow through innovation, quality, and reliable logistics.
- Manila-based tailoring business Caster Global Sports has grown into a global custom sportswear brand serving teams across North America, Europe, and Asia.
- By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern production technologies such as digital embroidery and full-body printing, the brand has built a strong reputation for affordable yet high-quality custom sports apparel.
- FedEx has supported Caster for over two decades with reliable international shipping, helping reduce delivery times to key markets and expand its reach as a niche Philippine export.
To say that basketball is the Philippines’ national pastime may be a bit of an understatement. From heated rivalries over favorite teams to basketball courts in every neighborhood, Filipinos go all in for the love of the game. And nothing screams “team spirit” more than a custom-made basketball jersey.
It was against this backdrop of basketball mania that master tailor Carlito Atienza found his golden opportunity. Swamped with custom requests from local basketball teams, he realized there was a gap in the market for affordable yet high-quality tailor-made sportswear.
Thus, Caster Global Sports Inc. was born. With Carlito’s craftsmanship and commitment, Caster quickly earned a reputation by making uniforms for discerning clients, including banks, universities, and local sports teams.
From its humble beginnings in Metro Manila in the 1980s, Caster has since grown into a global custom sportswear business, demonstrating how specialized goods can stand out among Philippine exports.
Building a legacy of craftsmanship and innovation
Caster’s secret to longevity lies not only in its craftsmanship. The brand’s customization capabilities and constant innovation enable it to stand out in a crowded market.
Caster’s design services are truly bespoke. Teams can send photos of their planned designs and receive tailored kits – a high-value offering for sports teams and clubs seeking unique identities for their custom sportswear. This freedom to customize is paired with rigorous quality control, ranging from standardized specifications to sample approvals and documented workflows. This allows Caster to reduce rework and protect margins amid high-volume production.
But what customers appreciate most is Caster’s flexibility. Typically, custom sportswear shops only accept bulk orders, with a minimum of 100 pieces. When Caster noticed rising demand from community sports teams and grassroots clubs, however, it began accepting smaller orders with shorter lead times. A small batch of 50 to 100 pieces can be delivered within two to three weeks, while larger orders with up to 1,000 pieces might take around three to six weeks.
While Caster stays true to its tradition of tailoring and craftsmanship, it also invests in the latest production technologies. For example, the brand draws on innovations like digital embroidery, full-body printing, and automated stitching to create custom sports apparel that meets each team’s unique design and performance needs.
And the proof is in the stitching. Customers often reach out to let Caster know that a custom jersey they ordered years ago is still going strong. Through countless games and decades of wear, the fabric still holds up, and the stitching remains intact – a testament to Caster’s craftsmanship.
Going global with reliable logistics
For decades, Caster thrived locally. However, change was on the horizon when Carlito’s son, Butch Atienza, joined the family business.
Armed with years of experience at a multinational firm, Butch brought a global perspective to the company. He recognized that the custom sportswear loved by their Filipino clients was also in demand overseas. As vice president of the company, Butch was ready to take Caster’s local tailoring excellence global.
Caster had already honed its craft and standardized its processes before scaling overseas, allowing it to maintain consistent quality as demand grew. Reliable logistics was the final piece of the puzzle that truly unlocked the brand’s global potential.
“We began shipping with FedEx in the early 2000s, after finding the promotional box rates really attractive,” Butch shares. “Back then, we were sending five to nine packages a week, until a FedEx representative noticed our volume and visited us to open an account.” This partnership – now more than 20 years strong – lowered barriers to exporting and helped Caster test new overseas markets without overcommitting inventory.
FedEx’s strong global network also enables faster shipping, with packages reaching international customers such as those in the US in as fast as two to five days. Reliable transit times, coupled with consistent tracking and clear communication, allow Caster to deliver a stellar customer experience and build repeat business worldwide.
Gaining momentum in local and overseas markets
Today, Caster’s global footprint as a custom sportswear exporter continues to grow, demonstrating how niche Philippine exports can succeed in foreign markets. The brand’s custom sportswear services have resonated deeply with buyers in Europe and the US, who are looking for unique uniforms rather than off-the-rack jerseys.
Caster’s continued partnership with FedEx enables it to serve more customers in Canada and Australia as well. The company is also considering franchising and international partnerships in Australia, Malaysia, Switzerland, and the US to expand its distribution network without overextending its production capacity.
On the home front, Caster is pursuing sponsorships and collaborations with major brands and sports organizations – including the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), the country’s premier professional basketball league.
Crafting global success, one stitch at a time
From Carlito’s singular vision in the 1980s to Butch’s global ambition in the 2000s, Caster’s journey demonstrates how craftsmanship, innovation, and reliable logistics can transform a small family business into a custom sports apparel exporter.
With the right support to reach customers beyond its home market, the brand has been able to bring affordable yet well-made custom sportswear to teams around the world. And as demand for custom sports apparel continues to grow worldwide, Caster’s story offers lessons for local businesses to build lasting success.
