How can I import a shipment?

Importing goods requires specific codes, paperwork and permits. You also need to be aware of the different customs procedures and pay the necessary duties and taxes. 

First, check if the goods you’re importing are allowed in the country/territory – this information can be found on the customs website of the destination country/territory. 

Then you need to have the following documents and codes:

  • Import license (if necessary)

  • Air waybill 

  • Commercial invoice 

  • Importer Registration Number (Importer of Record)

  • Customs Number or Client Code 

For shipments being imported to New Zealand with a value over $1000 NZD you are required to provide a Customs Number (for commercial importers) or Client Code (for individual importers).
