Value-added services and surcharges
Our value-added services let you customise FedEx services to your specific needs. Non-standard shipments or additional services may incur charges on top of standard transportation costs.
At FedEx, we regularly review our value-added services and surcharges to ensure reliable and efficient service. For any additional changes introduced in 2026, please refer to this page for the latest information.
The following updates take effect on January 2026:
Effective 5 January 2026
- Updated from £2.00 to £2.05 per shipment. This fee is assessed to cover clearance processing for shipments bound for the United States.
- For FedEx® International Connect Plus (FICP) shipments, the fee remains unchanged at £0.80 per shipment.
Effective 12 January 2026
- Simplified surcharge application: If a package qualifies for more than one of the following surcharges (AHS-Dimension, AHS-Packaging, AHS-Weight, Oversize Charge, or Unauthorized Package Charge), only the highest surcharge will apply, after discounts.
- Additional criteria for AHS-Dimension and Oversize: In addition to the current rules, the following will also apply:
- AHS-Dimension: Applies if a package exceeds 169,901 cm³ in volume (length × width × height)
- Oversize Charge: Applies if a package exceeds 283,168 cm³ in volume or weighs more than 50 kg

NOTE: We reserve the right to assess Additional Handling charges for packages or freight handling units that require special handling or that require FedEx to apply additional packaging during transit. To avoid AHS, please see our packaging guidelines.
Shipments picked up or delivered to remote and less accessible locations are assessed an Out-of-Pickup-Area (OPA) or Out-of-Delivery-Area (ODA) surcharge.
We are updating the postal codes where these surcharges apply.
- Current global postal code list (applicable until 11 January 2026)
- New postal codes (applicable from 12 January 2026)
Domestic Surcharges
Transportation costs may be affected by other additional surcharges due to the nature of the shipment. All surcharges are exclusive of VAT.
Declared Value, previously known as Enhanced transit liability (ETL). ETL will now be called ‘declared value’ on the shipping screen. It will be available on all services at £6 for each £1,000 of cover required. Carriage value gives you the option of paying for extra cover, for example if your shipment is lost, damaged or delayed. Find out more here.
Domestic Direct Signature Required
FedEx will obtain a signature from someone at the delivery address or reattempt delivery the following business day if no one is at the address. Read more here.
£2.00
Domestic Adult Signature Required
FedEx will obtain a signature from any person of legal adult age* at the delivery address.

* Legal age will vary depending on the destination country and is governed by the local legal age of an adult, not the legal age to purchase specific products (i.e. alcohol). This delivery option is not available in all destination countries.
Shipments picked up from or delivered to remote and less accessible locations are assessed as Out-of-Pick-Up-Area (OPA) or Out-of-Delivery-Area (ODA) surcharge. Please refer to the list of postal codes or cities where this surcharge applies.
