What to consider when shipping to Switzerland

  • Switzerland is not a member of the European Customs Union. Consequently, certain restrictions apply when sending parcels from France.
  • Businesses shipping to Switzerland must have an identification number, called EORI. This enables customs to track the movement of goods.
  • New rules came into force on January 1, 2024. The customs duties on industrial products imported into Switzerland have been abolished. This applies to goods listed in chapters 25 to 96 of the Swiss Customs Tariff. An exception is made for agricultural and fishery products (chapters 35 and 38).

  • Swiss VAT has also increased since then, and applies to all products.
  • FedEx cannot ship prohibited items on behalf of its customers. Check here applicable shipping restrictions and items prohibited for shipping to Switzerland.

Documents required to send parcels to Switzerland

  • Several documents are required for international shipments, such as the commercial invoice, which must accurately describe the goods. It must be written in English or French and include the EORI number, VAT number and currency.
  • In addition, all import declarations must contain a Harmonized System (HS) code specific to the imported goods. Use our International Shipping Assist solution to get your Harmonized System (HS) code.
  • Two copies of the CN23 form are required.
  • A declaration of origin on invoice (DOF) is required if the contents of the package are less than 6,000 euros. It is unlimited in value for Approved Exporters (AE). If the value exceeds 6,000 euros and is not an AE, a EUR1 certificate is required.
