As demand for mass customization reshapes the printing industry, businesses that can fulfill orders quickly are well-positioned to capture growth. RACETOP PRINT, a leading print and customization provider primarily serving the US market, shows how strategic logistics partnerships can accelerate cross-border expansion.
- RACETOP PRINT, a leading print and customization provider, faced the challenge of scaling high-frequency, small-batch orders for North American customers while meeting tight delivery timelines.
- The company leverages FedEx’s flexible shipping solutions to balance cost and speed, achieving reliable transit times of two to three business days from overseas production hubs to the US.
- FedEx’s end-to-end logistics and customs support has enabled RACETOP PRINT to compete effectively in global markets, with the company’s cross-border shipment volume to the US and Canada growing five-fold year-on-year in 2026.
Small-batch customization and global scale have long seemed at odds in the printing industry. Yet as consumers increasingly demand personalized products and experiences, advances in digital printing are redefining what's possible. Powered by AI and automation, commercial printing is evolving into a smart manufacturing model capable of delivering mass customization at scale.
These advances have unlocked new opportunities for print businesses. By combining digital production with e-commerce solutions, printers can now efficiently serve customers around the world – fulfilling custom orders with lower costs and less complexity.
For print providers expanding abroad, the key challenge lies in cross-border logistics. To compete effectively, companies must deliver large volumes of small-batch orders across borders with the speed and reliability customers expect from domestic shipping.
RACETOP PRINT, a leading digital printing and mass customization enterprise, has addressed this challenge through a three-year strategic partnership with FedEx. By closely integrating its smart manufacturing operations with FedEx’s global logistics solutions, the company has transformed custom printing into a scalable global service and significantly accelerated its cross-border growth.
From local print shop to smart global operations
Over more than two decades, RACETOP PRINT has continually evolved its operations to keep pace with technological innovation. Starting out as a traditional print shop in 2001, the company expanded into a digitally native enterprise by building robust online channels and consolidating massive order volumes.
In 2020, it took a major step forward by launching its own smart production facility. This enabled the shift from individual small-batch designs to true mass customization. Since 2022, the company has also adopted AI tools to enhance intelligent design processes and improve the overall customer experience.
Today, RACETOP PRINT operates with 2,000 employees and two major facilities. By the end of 2025, it had served over 65 million customers with a diverse portfolio spanning personalized photo albums, commercial printing, and packaging.
Serving both corporate clients and individual consumers, RACETOP PRINT’s orders typically involve high volumes, small batches, and hyper-personalization. Notably, up to 99% of its international shipments are destined for the US. As its cross-border business grew, the company partnered with FedEx to manage the complexities of high-frequency, small-batch shipments with varying requirements.
Shipping customized orders with speed and reliability
RACETOP PRINT’s custom orders are often tied to time-sensitive offline events and business needs. As such, its main cross-border logistics challenge lies in meeting customers’ tight delivery timelines. Fast, reliable, and scalable e-commerce shipping capabilities are critical to its operations. In fact, the company aims to provide global customers with the same speedy experience they would expect from a local printer.
FedEx’s extensive air network has significantly strengthened the company’s global supply chain. In particular, FedEx’s enhanced frequency on international cargo routes connecting its key production hubs to the US has reduced transit times to just two to three business days. With five flights operating per week, RACETOP PRINT benefits from greater shipping reliability and scalable capacity. This enables the company to bring delivery speeds closer to those of domestic US manufacturers.
“FedEx’s global network seamlessly integrates with our flexible manufacturing system,” says Daniel Morgan, Director of Global Operations at RACETOP PRINT. “Every customized order leaving our smart factory reaches overseas customers within a predictable 72-hour window, forming the foundation of trust for our cross-border business.”
Optimizing costs for small, high-frequency shipments
While fast shipping is key to RACETOP PRINT’s global expansion, cost efficiency is equally essential. The printer’s mass customization model comes with unique logistics needs: shipping lightweight, high-frequency packages at speed while keeping costs affordable.
A single e-commerce shipping solution may not always balance cost and delivery experience effectively. Recognizing this, RACETOP PRINT and FedEx developed a tiered approach based on product weight and order urgency.
For small parcels under 21kg, FedEx International Connect Plus (FICP) offers an efficient solution for global shipping at affordable rates. RACETOP PRINT relies on FICP to deliver an average of 50 parcels per day, which typically reach recipients within two to three business days.
For parcels over 21kg, RACETOP PRINT ships an average of 25 packages per day, using either FedEx International Priority or FedEx International Economy based on time sensitivity. This tailored approach effectively balances speed, cost, and customer experience.
As trade volumes grow, FedEx is working closely with RACETOP PRINT to leverage FedEx International Priority DirectDistribution (IPD). This service streamlines bulk shipping and reduces per-package fees by consolidating multiple shipments into a single unit for unified customs clearance and split local delivery.
Together, these logistics solutions help RACETOP PRINT maximize cost-efficiency and drive global expansion.
Ensuring every customized product is customs-ready
Customized print products can contain an assortment of materials, from paper and plastics to textiles and synthetic materials. This wide variety of materials can complicate accurate customs classification for cross-border shipments. Without proper management of customs requirements, RACETOP PRINT’s packages are vulnerable to documentation errors and clearance delays – especially as US regulations and tariff policies continue to evolve.
FedEx mitigates these risks with a dedicated team that brings together expertise from sales, customer service, and operations. The team collaborates closely with RACETOP PRINT to review clearance issues, implement timely corrections, and minimize delays at US customs. This proactive approach to risk management enables the company to fulfill time-sensitive orders within expected timelines.
End-to-end visibility and traceability further strengthen RACETOP PRINT’s global supply chain. When shipment exceptions arise, FedEx’s dedicated team quickly diagnoses issues and implements practical solutions to keep deliveries on track. By combining customs expertise with fast and cost-effective shipping solutions, FedEx provides the end-to-end logistics foundation for RACETOP PRINT to deliver mass customization at scale.
A blueprint for global success
Over three years, RACETOP PRINT’s strategic collaboration with FedEx has delivered impressive results.
The company’s annual cross-border shipment volume has nearly doubled – from around 13,000 packages at the start of the partnership to more than 25,000 today. In particular, its shipment volume to the US and Canada grew five-fold year-on-year in 2026. This momentum has given the company confidence to pursue further growth, with plans to double cross-border volume again within the year.
Beyond sales growth, RACETOP PRINT aims to convert its industrial strength into broader brand and cultural influence. Drawing on its printing heritage, the company is developing a cultural tourism project centered on the industry’s legacy – evolving from an e-commerce exporter into a global ambassador for industrial innovation.
RACETOP PRINT’s rapid growth illustrates the transformative power of cross-border logistics support. More than a means of moving goods, resilient logistics networks serve as critical infrastructure that enables manufacturers to scale and compete globally. As traditional manufacturers embrace digital transformation and expand beyond their home markets, RACETOP PRINT’s collaboration with FedEx offers a repeatable blueprint for leveraging smart manufacturing and reliable logistics to achieve global growth.
