The following surcharge changes took effect Jan. 4, 2021, unless otherwise noted, for FedEx Express® and FedEx Ground® services.*

The impact of the virus continues to generate a surge in volume, and we are experiencing extremely high demand for capacity and increased operating costs across our network this holiday peak season. We anticipate volume to continue to surge into the new year.​

To continue providing our customers with the best possible service during this challenging time, we will continue to implement the following surcharges:

FedEx continues to keep commerce moving and delivering critical shipments during the COVID-19 pandemic. ​The impact of the virus continues to generate elevated volumes, and we continue to experience high demand for capacity and increased operating costs across our network. ​To continue providing our customers with the best possible service during this challenging time, the below charge will be effective Feb. 15, 2021 until further notice:

Customers at the enterprise level who meet a certain volume threshold (as indicated below) will be charged a Peak — Residential Delivery Charge for packages shipped from Feb. 15, 2021 until further notice. The scope of a customer's volume shall be determined by FedEx in its sole discretion. The Peak — Residential Delivery Charge will be assessed in addition to the customer’s Residential Delivery Charge. Any contracted discount or cap the customer may have on the Residential Delivery Charge will not apply to the Peak — Residential Delivery Charge. For invoicing purposes, this charge will be combined with the customer’s current Residential Delivery Charge. Your FedEx sales representative will reach out to you regarding how it may impact you. ​

  • For customers who ship more than 30,000 weekly average packages (total for FedEx Express* and FedEx Ground U.S. domestic residential packages and FedEx Ground® Economy packages) from Jan. 4, 2021–Jan. 31, 2021 (the “Shipping History Period”), the Peak — Residential Delivery Charge will apply effective Feb. 15, 2021 until further notice. The charge amount of $0.30 per package will apply to FedEx Express and FedEx Ground U.S. domestic residential packages (excluding FedEx Ground Economy and FedEx One Rate® packages). FedEx Ground Economy packages will be subject to the previously announced Peak Surcharge effective Jan. 18, 2021 until further notice.

FedEx reserves the right to redefine the “Shipping History Period” in the future upon publication on fedex.com.

Peak — Residential Delivery Charge

The amount charged per package will be based on a Peaking Factor, calculated as weekly average packages shipped Oct. 5, 2020–Oct. 18, 2020, divided by weekly average packages shipped Feb. 3, 2020–March 1, 2020, multiplied by 100. Peaking Factor and amount charged are determined separately for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground.

  • For customers who ship more than 35,000 weekly average packages (total for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground U.S. domestic — including FedEx Ground Economy — residential and commercial combined) from Nov. 16, 2020–Nov. 29, 2020,*, the Peak — Residential Delivery Charge reflected in the chart below will apply Dec. 14, 2020–Jan. 17, 2021. The amount charged per package will be based on a Peaking Factor, calculated as weekly average packages shipped Nov. 16, 2020–Nov. 29, 2020,* divided by weekly average packages shipped Feb. 3, 2020–March 1, 2020, multiplied by 100. Peaking Factor and amount charged are determined separately for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground.
    *For weeks with holidays, weekly average value will be prorated based on the FedEx normal operating days during non-holiday weeks.

  • Customers whose average weekly volume during the holiday peak season (Nov. 2, 2020–Jan. 17, 2021) is expected to exceed 35,000 packages (total for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground U.S. domestic — including FedEx Ground Economy — residential and commercial combined) and who have a Peaking Factor greater than 200% will be contacted by their FedEx sales representative to discuss the impact of this charge.

We announced a surcharge on all FedEx Express® and TNT international parcel and freight shipments beginning April 6, 2020.

We implemented this surcharge due to the various COVID-19 containment restrictions issued in countries around the world. Those restrictions are disrupting the global supply chain. As a result, air cargo capacity is limited, and we are incurring incremental costs as we adjust our international networks to best deliver much-needed goods and services in this constrained environment.

This surcharge does not apply to domestic shipments.

Beginning Nov. 2, 2020, the name of the surcharge changed from Temporary Surcharge to Peak Surcharge.​
