What non-personal information does FedEx capture on visitors to its Website?
fedex.ca resides on the fedex.com Web Server. This server uses an extended log file format which captures: date and time of visit, refer address (location from which a visitor comes to fedex.ca), type of Internet browser, and visitor's IP address (each computer that connects to the Internet is assigned a unique number, an IP Address, for identification purposes), country/language, date/timestamp, screen size, meta tags, and FedEx first party cookie and third party cookies. The log file does not capture a visitor's email address. For more information, please see the section on cookies below.
Does FedEx ask for personal information?
How does FedEx use the non-personal and personal information collected through the Website?
What happens when I leave fedex.ca (or fedex.com) to visit a FedEx linked Website?
Parts of fedex.ca consist of products and services hosted by business partners and other third parties. When you leave fedex.ca (or fedex.com) to visit one of their sites, the only information transferred to the third party is the fact that you came from fedex.ca (the refer address). This practice allows the third party to monitor its own website traffic, but does not provide them with any information about you. FedEx is not responsible or liable for the independent activities, privacy policies or content at third party sites. You should consult the privacy policies and other terms and conditions at those sites to determine how your information may be used.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a series of data characters that, when programmed into a website, is placed by the Web server into the browser's application folder on your computer. Once placed onto your machine, the cookie will allow the website to "recognize" you as a unique individual.
Unless you register with certain areas of fedex.ca, these cookies will not contain any personal information. If you do register with certain areas of fedex.ca, cookies that contain personal information may be combined with other information to provide you with more customized content on this website and advertisements on other sites across the Internet. For example, when you access a page on our website, a cookie is automatically set by us, or our service providers to recognize your browser as you navigate on the Internet and to present you with information and advertising based on your apparent interests. Please see the advertising section below for more information about our online advertising practices and your choices. You can also learn more about how we use your personal information when you register with fedex.ca.
Cookies are also used to help measure and research the effectiveness of website features and offerings, and advertisements.
Can cookies be removed from my hard drive?
Yes, cookies can be removed from your hard drive. Also, depending on what type of Web browser and what browser version you are using, you may be able to change the properties on your cookie file so that cookies are not used or saved. Please check with your browser provider for more information on removing cookies. Please note that if you refuse to accept cookies, you may not be able to access many of the tools offered on our website.
Does FedEx use advertising companies to serve ads on third party Internet sites?
Yes, FedEx uses selected advertising companies to serve relevant ads on third party Internet sites. Namely, we currently use Accuen, DoubleClick, Media Mind, Omniture, Google, Say Media and x + 1. FedEx does not provide any personal information to these advertising companies to allow them to use such data on their own behalf, or for the benefit of any other party. These advertising companies may, however, place their own cookies on your browser. You can choose not to allow these advertising companies to use their cookies to serve you ads on third party Internet sites. To opt-out of other ad targeting by Accuen, DoubleClick and Omniture, you can review the parties' privacy policies for instructions on how to opt-out on their Internet sites.
Does FedEx use my personal information for advertising?
For internal purposes on this website, FedEx combines personal information that we obtain from registrations with non-personal information gathered through cookies and other technologies about your searches and other activities on fedex.ca. We may also receive similar non-personal information from third party advertisers. We use this information to customize your experience on the website.
To which other third parties does FedEx share information?
We may also share your information in response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal process; to establish or exercise our legal rights; to defend against legal claims; or as otherwise required by law. In such cases we reserve the right to raise or waive any legal objection or right available to us.
When we believe it is appropriate to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal or suspected illegal activities; to protect and defend the rights, property, or safety of our company or this website, our customers, or others; and in connection with our Terms of Service and other agreements.
We may share your information in connection with a corporate transaction, such as a divestiture, merger, consolidation, or asset sale, or in the unlikely event of bankruptcy.
What about children under 13?
We do not knowingly or intentionally collect personal information from children under age 13. If you are under the age of 13, please do not submit any personal information to us, and rely on a parent or guardian to assist you.
