What your customers need to know about shipping commercial goods into Canada

Through their Canada Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) initiative, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) changed the way commercial goods imported into Canada are managed. Since October 21, 2024, CARM has been the official system of record for collecting taxes and duties.


Who needs to know about CARM?

Businesses that ship commerical goods into Canada as the importer of record are subject to CARM requirements. Casual or non-commercial importers are not affected.


Be a resource for your customers

Take some time to read up on CARM—even if you don’t ship into Canada as the importer of record. Your customers might look to you for information and guidance.
