I’ve already paid my FedEx invoice(s), so why is there still an ‘Overdue balance’ showing in my CARM Client Portal account?
FedEx pays the duties and taxes calculated on customs entries we submit on your behalf to the CBSA by its monthly payment due date. However, the CBSA applies payment in a specific order:
1. Penalties or interest owed by the importer are paid first
2. Remaining funds are applied to outstanding duties and taxes, starting with the oldest debts.
As a result, even if you’ve paid FedEx in full, the payment may be used by the CBSA to settle other debts under your Business Number (BN), including those not related to FedEx shipments.
Note: Other service providers (e.g., couriers or brokers) are responsible for paying the duties and taxes on the entries they submit on your behalf. Payments they make will also follow the CBSA’s allocation rules.
