Should I choose standard or freight services for heavy shipments?
FedEx standard shipping is for packages under 150 lbs. FedEx Ground® delivers to businesses and is faster to more locations than UPS Ground. Your shipment must be less than 108" in length and 165" in length plus girth (L + 2H+ 2W).
FedEx® freight services are for shipments that typically weigh 150 lbs. or more. Here are your options:
- FedEx U.S. air freight shipping. Get time-definite delivery of palletized freight within 3 days.
- FedEx international air freight shipping. Get delivery in 1-5 business days to most major world markets.
- FedEx LTL (less-than-truckload) shipping. Because you only pay for a portion of the trailer space, LTL shipping can be an economical choice. You can ship within the U.S. and to Canada and Mexico.
- Flat-rate freight shipping. You can use a FedEx Freight® box for domestic LTL shipments. You don't have to classify your freight, and it eliminates reclass and reweight fees. Prices are determined by delivery zone, so pricing is predictable. And the cost of shipping materials is included in the flat fee.
If you have multiple packages or freight shipments going to the same location, enable multiweight pricing on your account. It calculates the cost of sending items as a single shipment versus keeping them separate. Then, it automatically applies the lower price.
