Tips for Shipping Returns

Before Making a Purchase

Check the store’s return policy. Does it allow returns? Is there a time limit? A restocking fee? Does the store provide free shipping? Is the return process simple?

Keep It Timely

Some online stores have a specific number of days for accepting returns. Make sure to allow yourself enough time for the shipment to reach its destination.

Pack Your Items With Care

Depending on which FedEx® shipping service you select, you can pack your items in your own box or use our complimentary FedEx Express® boxes.3 We also have packing materials available for purchase at most FedEx locations.

Let Us Pack for You

Too busy, don’t want to pack your return yourself or need some help? Our FedEx team members are experts in packing. Plus, our pack-and-ship services are backed by the FedEx Office® Packing Pledge.

Use Preprinted Labels

Check whether the online retailer provides a preprinted FedEx label for return shipping. If so, the retailer will either include one in the original shipment or send a label if you request it.

Create Shipping Labels

If your package doesn’t include a preprinted FedEx return label, you can create one online via your desktop or mobile device, download our mobile app for on-the-go shipping, or let us create a label for you at a FedEx location.

For Express Delivery

Running out of time for your return? Choose FedEx Express for delivery in 1, 2 or 3 days.

For Cost Savings

If expedited shipping isn’t needed, use FedEx Ground for fast, affordable shipping in 1—5 days.

Drop Off Your Shipment

Bring your return to any of our convenient locations nationwide, including FedEx Office, Walgreens and other retail stores.4

Or use any of our FedEx® Drop Box locations to ship your prelabeled package.4 Bigger box? No problem. Our drop boxes accept boxes up to 20" x 12" x 6" for your FedEx Express®, FedEx Ground® and FedEx SmartPost® shipments.

Open Late

Many FedEx Office locations are open later than The UPS Store.  Enjoy added reliability and convenience with in-person returns.4

Track Your Return

Knowing when your shipment arrives at its destination will help you determine when you can expect reimbursement for the returned items.
