Tracking and managing your FedEx deliveries
Here's what you'll find on this page:
FedEx delivery times and store hours
How late does FedEx deliver?
Typical FedEx delivery hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday–Friday and on Saturday and Sunday for residential deliveries except for FedEx Express shipments. FedEx Express delivery times vary by service. If you got a message that says we’ll deliver your package by end of day, your package should arrive before 8 p.m. when FedEx usually stops delivering.
To get an estimated delivery time for your package, you can enter your tracking number (or other identifying reference number) into the tracking tool. You’ll see your scheduled delivery date and an estimated delivery window, if available.
What are FedEx store hours?
FedEx operating hours vary by location. Find stores near you by entering your location. Then you can see operating hours and filter by location type or service, including package pickup and drop off, packing, shipping, printing, and more.
How to manage your deliveries
Do any of these statements sound like you? If so, find out what to do to take control of your shipments, handle door tags, start returns, and more.
“I won't be home to receive my FedEx package.”
Keep your shipments safe by requesting when and where they’re delivered. If your package is already on its way, ask us to redirect it to one of our thousands of convenient pickup locations. All you need is the shipment tracking ID to get started.
“I missed a FedEx delivery and got a door tag.”
We do everything we can to make sure you get your delivery at the address specified. But sometimes it’s not possible or prudent for us to leave packages. For example, if your package requires a signature but you’re not home. Or if the driver can’t find a safe place to leave your shipment. In those situations, we might leave a door tag. Here’s how to handle that.
Use the tracking or door tag number to track your package and find out where to pick it up.
Bring the door tag or tracking number and a government-issued photo ID to your pickup location.
Give both to a team member and sign for your package.
If the address on your ID doesn’t match the address on the label, be sure to bring other documentation with a matching address, like a utility bill, insurance card, property statement, or credit card statement.
You may have an option to authorize a next-business-day redelivery by completing and signing the form on the back of your door tag and leaving it on your door.
“My package is being held at a FedEx location. How long will they hold it?”
We’ll hold your package for up to 7 days for a FedEx Ground® or FedEx Express® shipment before returning it to the shipper.
“I need to return a FedEx package.”
You can create a return shipping label online or visit a participating FedEx location to start the returns process. If you already have a return shipping label and a packed box, you’re ready to drop it off at one of thousands of convenient locations around the country, including FedEx Office, Walgreens, and select Dollar General stores.

How to track deliveries
Need to track a package? With us, it’s easy. All you need is a tracking number, reference number, transportation control number (TCN), FedEx Office order number, or the number from your door tag. Then use one of these methods:
Track it online.
Use our mobile app.
Text “follow” and your door tag number to 48773.
Call 1.800.GoFedEx 1.800.463.3339, say “track my package,” and follow the prompts.
What does my tracking status mean?
Here’s a guide to understanding the status of your FedEx package.
| Package status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| “Your package is in transit.” | “In transit” means your package is on its way to its final destination. It doesn’t necessarily mean your package is in a moving vehicle like an airplane or truck. It might be at one of our facilities. |
| “Your package is out for delivery.” | “Out for delivery” means your package was scanned by a package handler and placed on a pallet to be loaded on a vehicle for delivery. You can check the estimated delivery window online. |
| “There is no scheduled delivery date at this time.” |
“No scheduled delivery date at this time” means we don’t have a delivery estimate, or we don’t have the package yet. You might see this status if your shipment is delayed or there’s a handling exception. (See below for exception examples.) |
| “Your scheduled delivery is now pending.” |
“Scheduled delivery is now pending” means the delivery date has changed based on a delay of some kind. Know that we’re still doing everything we can to deliver your package as soon as possible. |
| “Delivery exception.” | “Delivery exception” means an unexpected event is preventing us from delivering your package. Some examples include customs delays, holiday closures, missing documentation, and security restrictions. |
Why isn’t my package moving?
You’ll see shipment updates at various points between your package’s pickup and its delivery. The frequency of scans varies, and it’s not unusual for a shipment to go more than 24 hours without an update, especially during long transit.
